I am moving in at school and our apartment building gives us free internet. The internet is free but hardwired. I was wondering if it is possible to use the hardwire to convert it to wireless, and if so how can it be done. Thanks.

Buy a wireless router. Configure the wireless router with your computer following its directions. Plug the router’s Internet (or WAN) port into the hardwire.
That is exactly why routers (actually NAT) exist, buy that and Internet is effectively converted to wireless on your own end for your own use, and with settings on your own hardware with your own say. All that is left is to buy the USB stick/PCMCIA/PCI at the other side for your own computer.
Basic configuration is always easily done following the manual.
